Perlite is a natural glass also referred to as pearl stone.

Rapid cooling of viscous lava or magma flow on the surface water produces perlite. It has a pearl color, but occasionally comes in gray or bluish brown or bluish red. The natural glass consists of a porous gemstone, volcanic rock ash and volcanic ash.
