Ideally I would like to find a balance between a material that would work in most conditions (80% rule) and materials for
injection moulding in China. The generic material should support wear, reasonable heat and cold (work inside and outside), dry and wet environments (humidity/rain/snow), UV protection (working in the sun for 12hr). The extreme should support high heat (firefighter), shrapnel (military), high chemical resistance (disaster cleanup), etc. I would prefer to use Chinese injection moulds for the different materials. Both materials should be dent and fracture resistant, (should survive a fall or impact). So far many have recommended glass or carbon reinforced LFRT, I also started looking at bulk moulding compound companies. Thoughts? Also what are my cost per cubic inch for the various materials?
If I understand you, the problem is that your local phenolic compound manufacturer does not have a compound that is suitable for your plastic injection moulding machines. At this point, I assume that the specifications of your injection moulding machines are correct and suitable for phenolic moulding compounds, with the screw having constant depth of flight with sufficient pressures and correct temperatures for a suitable compound. You cannot just use a thermoplastics machine, the screw and barrel would need modification. I assume that you could
import a suitable compound as I suggested, but the higher cost coupled with
import duties make it too expensive. If these assumptions are correct, the initial issue is therefore one of cost and you want to formulate a suitable compound in China to keep the cost down. Are you saying that your Chinese phenolic compound manufacturer is not willing to work with you, or that they don’t know how to solve the problem of how to make a suitable compound?
