Our yurts are designed and built in an eco - friendly environment that achieves a high degree of self sufficiency. We would like to believe that our sustainable yurts are in complete harmony and balance with nature, and self sufficiency in energy. We have a specific structural design that maximises solar gain, and also makes use of wind to cool down the interior temperature. This Mongolian style of yurt is suitable for all weathers. They are insulated with a layer of thick felt to withstand night time temperatures. Traditionally, additional rugs and blankets are also hung from the inner framework to provide both added insulation in extreme weather and decoration. The yurt's design means it is warm in the winter, yet cool in the summer (the perimeter cover is traditionally rolled up at the bottom to provide a breeze). There are also roll up windows with a mosquito mesh to allow extra light. The Roof Ring functions both as a roof window to bring in more light and to ventilate any excess heat from inside the yurt. These requirements especially suit the extremes of temperatures seen in Mongolia, but are also perfect for slightly milder European climates. The willow and pine wood we source is from nationally approved suppliers in China. A sustainable wood source supply is essential to our business. Our yurt has 3 components: Frame (walls of a folding lattice design called 'khana'), the tent and cover. The frame includes the roof ring, rafters, columns, wall sections and the door. The tent lining is made of felt and has decorative polyester for the inner exposed lining. The cover is made of silicone impregnated canvas (which is fully waterproof) and is decorated with velvet Mongolian cultural patterns. In larger yurts some of our customers have made structural partition walls which can be fitted within the yurt to provide a separate shower room and toilet. This, combined with a sustainable water recycling system set up outside of the yurt can really make them home from home.
