In vacuum clamping, the clamping force is not applied to the workpiece mechanically, but is provided by the surrounding atmosphere. This means that the workpiece is gently and evenly pulled down over the whole supporting surface. Consequently, there is little chance for vibration. As there are no obstructing brackets, clamps or workholding nodules in the working and the loading area, there are fewer chances fro collisions with the tool. This clamping method is particularly suitable for workpieces with a large surface area, even non-metallic. If there are lateral forces the use of stop bars is recommended.
